Drive By Post: Fashion Don'ts

This is a quick drive by post. I'm looking at some celebrity pictures from Essence Magazine's Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon and I just had to comment on these eye sores. Enjoy!

Kim Whitley  - The luncheon was held at the Beverly Hills Hotel and I know hotels are often quite chilly and having a sweater on hand is a good idea. What I want to know is who told Kim Whitley this chintzy cardigan was okay to wear? A nice black wrap would have been a better choice. The dress is not at all flattering and her "hair" is a complete no.

Lynn Whitfield - It kills my soul to say something bad about Ms. Whitfield who has always looked fab at various events, but this black bra beneath the sheer coral blouse business is a fashion no-no. When going sheer match the bra or camisole to the top.

Vanessa Williams - Out of ALL the shoes she probably owns, she wore those heavy black suede joints!! Why, God, why???? She had a chance to kill in this dress but she opted for the worst footwear she could find. I pray her strappy sandals or a pair of pumps were in that bag.

Zoe Saldana: Simply Chic

Zoe Saldana rocked a white haute ruffled backless MaxMara dress, Christian Louboutins, and a sleek Ferragamo clutch to the Crystal + Lucy Awards where she received the “Face of the Future” award.

I love the dress but I’m biased because I love anything with ruffles. Some people think ruffles are too young and childlike but done right they are anything but. Zoe definitely got it right with this look. The contrast of the black ribbon belt is a nice touch as well. The one criticism I do have are the shoes. I’m just not sure about them with that particular dress. I would have opted for something light and strappy. Nonetheless, Zoe chose a great dress and she looked fabulous!

What do you think of Zoe’s look? Do you like the shoes? Talk to me!

Effortlessly Fab

When it comes to fashion and style, I believe in an effortless and fabulous look. I don't like over the top fussy. You've seen women with ensembles that cause that confused look to come across your face and you think what is she wearing? There is something to be said about people who can make a few basics look catwalk ready. The following celebs got it right:

Halle Berry in black leggings, an embellished top w/ a black vest. Very rocker chic!

Kimora Lee & baby Kenzo (isn't he a doll?) Airport styling at it's best. This is a very
easy look that anyone can recreate. Well maybe not the Birkin bag, lol!

Carrying a baby in 4.5" sandals? That's the type of mommy I want to be ;)

A muted yet fun print dress and metallic heels plus Kerry Washington's
natural beauty makes this chic simple and a modern classic.
